Riley & Cole's Rainy Fall Engagement Session at Twin Lakes

If there's one thing I've learned as a Colorado engagement photographer, it's that some of the best sessions happen when things don't go exactly as planned.

Riley and Cole made the trip up to Leadville for their engagement session because they were looking for exactly what this area does best—big mountain views, quiet mornings, and plenty of room to explore. As a couple who loves hiking, adventure, and spending time outdoors with their pups, Twin Lakes felt like the perfect fit.

When we met up before sunrise, we were greeted with steady rain and clouds hanging low over the mountains. Some couples might have been discouraged, but not these two. They fully embraced the weather, and honestly, it made the morning even more memorable.

The rain brought out the incredible fall colors that Twin Lakes is known for. The aspens were glowing shades of gold, and the mist rolling across the lake gave everything a dreamy, mountain-town feel. Between the golden trees, the dramatic peaks, and the quiet shoreline, it felt like we had the entire place to ourselves.

Of course, their dogs were a huge part of the adventure. They tagged along for the session, explored the beach, and added so much personality to the photos. I always love when couples include their pups because they're such an important part of the story.

What I loved most about Riley and Cole's session was how easy it was to see their connection. Whether they were laughing as the rain picked up, walking hand-in-hand along the shore, or snuggling together to stay warm, they were completely present with each other. Those are always the moments that make the best photographs.

One of the reasons I love Twin Lakes engagement sessions so much is that no two visits ever feel the same. Sometimes you get blue skies and mountain reflections. Other times, like this morning, you get moody weather, fog-covered peaks, and golden aspens glowing in the rain. Both are beautiful in their own way.

Riley and Cole's engagement session was a perfect reminder that you don't need perfect weather to create incredible memories. Sometimes all you need is a sense of adventure, the person you love, and a couple of happy pups ready to hit the trail.

If you're planning a Twin Lakes engagement session, looking for a Leadville engagement photographer, or dreaming of engagement photos that feel adventurous and true to your relationship, I'd love to help you plan something unforgettable.
